There is still an awful lot of boarded-up storefronts across this country. 164,000 of the business on the platform Yelp closed during the first six months of the epidemic, and 97,000 of those never re-opened, according to Yelp
One kind of business, though fared much better than others, worker-owned businesses or co-ops, by and large, stayed open even if they had to retool. And they are less likely to experience the labor shortage many businesses face now as the economy opens up.
